The Republicans have taken control of the House of Representatives and have narrowed the gap in the Senate.  Will Obama work with them to move the country forward now?  Will they work with Obama?

No they won't.  What's important in big-party politics is taking credit for the little good that happens, and blaming the other for whatever bad happens.  I think Obama will move a bit to appease his victors, but there is little hope in the Repubs doing anything to change since their overwhelming wins this year.  I see no change.
